Battle.Net iPhone App back on the Store

September 30th, 2009 Comments off

IMG_0038The mobile authenticator update to 1.0.2 is back up on the iTunes App store.  The reports of people losing their Serial number upon update a few weeks ago prompted this being yanked.  I just ran the update and can confirm that it did keep my serial from prior to the upgrade.

Blizzard does note that prior to upgrading you should remove the authenticator from your account.  That way if your serial number does change, you can easily register the new one very easily without going through the well noted pain of that is Blizzard customer service, which is short of giving them a blood sample as to proof of ID.  Just listen to the Outlandish podcast from two weeks ago to hear about the annoyance of this .

As always: Caveat Emptor

And as a side note, everyone should have some form of authenticator on their account.  This will help fight against hacking, it also removes a main tool of the gold farmer.

Blizzcon ’09 Quick Reflection

August 23rd, 2009 Comments off

As I sit here in the airport waiting for our flight to leave I thought I would give some initial thoughts on expansion 3.
*Goblins are op
*Worgans need some “cool” buffs.
*Every expansion feels like this was their original view for the game. This is a good thing.
*Many new guild options, including talent trees and guild patterns and heirlooms.

All in all I was pretty impressed with what I played and saw at the panels. When I get home and have some time, I will expand on all of these points.

Patience Limitation has been Reached

July 30th, 2009 Comments off

So I am completely tired of bouncing off of instance doorways with the yellow spam of instance issues.  They need to stop bragging on units sold or number of subscribers and actually fix the issues that are affecting players in-game today.  This week we have tried farming mounts, continuing “Glory to the Hero”, and farm some badges for a fellow guildie.  All the while seeing the same yellow text over and over again.  I submit a ticket every time I get this error to the same generic response from a GM.  In response to this I have voted against Blizzard with my money, and have canceled my account.  I have plenty of time remaining, so it will be a while until I no longer play.  I have emailed every address that Blizzard provides during the cancellation process.   I had only one response

I will forward your report to the appropriate people. While I cannot guarantee a response, I can assure you it will be read.

Best Regards,

Elissa W.
Blizzard Entertainment

This still is unacceptable.  With the upcoming changes to badges in 3.2 and no reasonable information as to the fix to this problem.  Recent information has come out on the EU forums stating that much of the extended maintenance they have been experiencing lately is to fix this.  However, nothing was mentioned about US servers.  Until there is an actual acknowledgment about this issue, other then the lazy Bornakk response about a month ago, I will consider this issue neglected.  I consider acknowledgment some form of information on the log in screen.  Many users do not read the forums and are unaware of the extent of this issue.  The reach of this issue has gotten me thinking about some form of a class action lawsuit against.  It looks to me like this would fall under the following terms of service agreement (section 15 and 16.)

  1. Limitation of Liability.

NEITHER BLIZZARD NOR ITS PARENT, SUBSIDIARIES, LICENSORS OR AFFILIATES SHALL BE LIABLE IN ANY WAY FOR DAMAGE OR LOSS OF ANY KIND RESULTING FROM (A) THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE GAME OR SERVICE INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION LOSS OF GOODWILL, WORK STOPPAGE, COMPUTER FAILURE OR MALFUNCTION; (B) THE LOSS OR DAMAGE TO CHARACTERS, ACCOUNTS, STATISTICS, INVENTORIES OR USER PROFILE INFORMATION; OR (C) INTERRUPTIONS OF SERVICE INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ISP DISRUPTIONS, SOFTWARE OR HARDWARE FAILURES OR ANY OTHER EVENT WHICH MAY RESULT IN A LOSS OF DATA OR DISRUPTION OF SERVICE. IN NO EVENT WILL BLIZZARD BE LIABLE TO YOU OR ANYONE ELSE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES.

  2. Force Majeure.

Blizzard shall not be liable for any delay or failure to perform resulting from causes outside the reasonable control of Blizzard, including without limitation any failure to perform hereunder due to unforeseen circumstances or cause beyond Blizzard’s control such as acts of God, war, terrorism, riots, embargoes, acts of civil or military authorities, fire, floods, accidents, strikes, or shortages of transportation facilities, fuel, energy, labor or materials.

We are currently paying for a service not being provided.  This is not a act of god, it is a act of neglagence.  They know how many people they have, they know how many instance are run and have not done anything to address this pending issue.  Now I am not looking to make money on this, maybe have a month of time refunded for everyone and force Blizzard to admit the neglagence and neglect they have put on the game ever since their lead staff has left to work on the alternate project.  Like I said, I am no lawyer, however if there is one interested in this, I will gladly fill you in on all of the issues pertaining to this I will gladly help.

I am writing this because of all of the wasted time I am now spending trying to play something that I am playing to play.  Don’t be surprised if I do not ask some very hard questions or even serve Blizzard with papers at Blizzcon.  This is how upset I am over this issue.
