Orbital What? – 2 Tower Flame Leviathan

July 31st, 2009 Comments off

So as anyone knows, we have been tackling Ulduar rather consistently (barring the last few weeks, damn you summer bbqs!) since we could get in there.  Last night we decided to try and tackle a hard mode on Flame Leviathan.  We knew 4 towers up would be terribly difficult, especially considering we were starting it out by 8 manning it.  So we went and killed Freya’s tower, finished off the gauntlet and tried it with tree towers up.  After a handful of wipes, we decided, since we were shorthanded, to go destroy Hodir’s tower and just tackle it with 2 up instead.  Shortly after destroying Hodir’s tower our 9th per raider logged on, we did two attempts with little success, 52% and 38%.  The nice part was our 10th had finally logged on.  With everyone in, we tried again, got him to 8%, when I noticed something I would like to address in another post about being a raid leader, someone drastically out of position all the time.  It amazed me at how many times we had been in there, how many people were still missing the strategy.  This may have been my fault, I asked if so and so had driven the vehicles before and I got a yes, I didn’t ask had you done it under our strategy yet?  Anyway, after a short break and a clearing up of the strategy, we went and tackled him again.  We lost the two cycles, but did manage to kill him.  We received the following achievements for doing so Orbital Devastation and Orbital Bombardment.  We also received a Runed Orb and the Pattern: Lightning Grounded Boots, all of which were nice surprises.

2 Tower Strategy –

We destroyed Freya’s tower(Tower of Nature) and Hodir’s tower (Tower of Frost).  This left Thorim’s tower (Tower of Storms) and Mimron’s tower (Tower of Flames up).  We used our similar strategy as here.  Now instead of just Flame Leviathan (FL), we have two varied color beams of light and come down,  one white and one red.

The red one, mimron’s,  leaves little flame cones in a diamond shamed pattern around the map, that then turn into a wall of flames.  These do SIGNIFICANT damage and should be avoided at all costs.  This does make for some adjustments needing to be made on those being perused.  We used vent for people to call out where the cones were and how to avoid them as best we could.  The tower also buffs FL’s flame damage by 50%, so make sure those flame vents are being interrupted.

The white one, thorim’s, does an AoE pulse of damage that will hit everyone, the closer you are to the beams, the more damage you take.  This only happens twice and it is at the very begining of the fight.  If you are not under the the beams you should take about 40% damage.  This is just designed to normalize health, making it even harder.  The tower also increases FL’s physical damage, so be sure to avoid those battering rams.

One caveat we do to the main strategy is we only launch one caster up there.  With another in reserve as needed.  The flame walls are very odd, you have to watch for what looks like a fog of flames.  That is what does the majority of damage, so avoid that.

That about does it, good luck and good hunting, next time we go for three, then for four!

Patience Limitation has been Reached

July 30th, 2009 Comments off

So I am completely tired of bouncing off of instance doorways with the yellow spam of instance issues.  They need to stop bragging on units sold or number of subscribers and actually fix the issues that are affecting players in-game today.  This week we have tried farming mounts, continuing “Glory to the Hero”, and farm some badges for a fellow guildie.  All the while seeing the same yellow text over and over again.  I submit a ticket every time I get this error to the same generic response from a GM.  In response to this I have voted against Blizzard with my money, and have canceled my account.  I have plenty of time remaining, so it will be a while until I no longer play.  I have emailed every address that Blizzard provides during the cancellation process.   I had only one response

I will forward your report to the appropriate people. While I cannot guarantee a response, I can assure you it will be read.

Best Regards,

Elissa W.
Blizzard Entertainment

This still is unacceptable.  With the upcoming changes to badges in 3.2 and no reasonable information as to the fix to this problem.  Recent information has come out on the EU forums stating that much of the extended maintenance they have been experiencing lately is to fix this.  However, nothing was mentioned about US servers.  Until there is an actual acknowledgment about this issue, other then the lazy Bornakk response about a month ago, I will consider this issue neglected.  I consider acknowledgment some form of information on the log in screen.  Many users do not read the forums and are unaware of the extent of this issue.  The reach of this issue has gotten me thinking about some form of a class action lawsuit against.  It looks to me like this would fall under the following terms of service agreement (section 15 and 16.)

  1. Limitation of Liability.

NEITHER BLIZZARD NOR ITS PARENT, SUBSIDIARIES, LICENSORS OR AFFILIATES SHALL BE LIABLE IN ANY WAY FOR DAMAGE OR LOSS OF ANY KIND RESULTING FROM (A) THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE GAME OR SERVICE INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION LOSS OF GOODWILL, WORK STOPPAGE, COMPUTER FAILURE OR MALFUNCTION; (B) THE LOSS OR DAMAGE TO CHARACTERS, ACCOUNTS, STATISTICS, INVENTORIES OR USER PROFILE INFORMATION; OR (C) INTERRUPTIONS OF SERVICE INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ISP DISRUPTIONS, SOFTWARE OR HARDWARE FAILURES OR ANY OTHER EVENT WHICH MAY RESULT IN A LOSS OF DATA OR DISRUPTION OF SERVICE. IN NO EVENT WILL BLIZZARD BE LIABLE TO YOU OR ANYONE ELSE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES.

  2. Force Majeure.

Blizzard shall not be liable for any delay or failure to perform resulting from causes outside the reasonable control of Blizzard, including without limitation any failure to perform hereunder due to unforeseen circumstances or cause beyond Blizzard’s control such as acts of God, war, terrorism, riots, embargoes, acts of civil or military authorities, fire, floods, accidents, strikes, or shortages of transportation facilities, fuel, energy, labor or materials.

We are currently paying for a service not being provided.  This is not a act of god, it is a act of neglagence.  They know how many people they have, they know how many instance are run and have not done anything to address this pending issue.  Now I am not looking to make money on this, maybe have a month of time refunded for everyone and force Blizzard to admit the neglagence and neglect they have put on the game ever since their lead staff has left to work on the alternate project.  Like I said, I am no lawyer, however if there is one interested in this, I will gladly fill you in on all of the issues pertaining to this I will gladly help.

I am writing this because of all of the wasted time I am now spending trying to play something that I am playing to play.  Don’t be surprised if I do not ask some very hard questions or even serve Blizzard with papers at Blizzcon.  This is how upset I am over this issue.

AddOn: TidyPlates

July 15th, 2009 Comments off

This is my new “cannot live with out” mod.  TidyPlates is a simple mod that replaces the stock blizzard name plates with ones the reflect threat/cast bar/health.  This is when you hit the ‘v’ key for enemy nameplates under the default key bindings.  This mod is a drop in and play mod.  It supports themes, so you can customize it to look how you want.  Granted this does take a little bit of work, however there are about a half dozen or so themes already made.  Some worthless for show and others that are greatly useful.

Here is TidyPlates at a glance with the knurl theme.

I found the need for this mod while tanking, primariy the arena portion of Thorim.  With all the mobs jumping down and aggro’ing on the healers I sometimes lost track of a few.  Now with a glance I can round up the loose mobs with little or no difficulty.  Red means I have aggro, yellow means I am building threat, green means I have no threat.  It is just that simple, most of these states are reflected above.

The mod can be found here: TidyPlates

The theme I prefer and pictured here: Knurl for TidyPlates

Additional Themes: Themes for TidyPlates

The author is danltiger

There are more complex nameplate addons out there, like aloft, however those take up a lot of memory and could use a degree to configure all the options.  This one is simple, does the job, and part of my must have tanking mods.

It’s for a great cause!

July 10th, 2009 Comments off

There are two charities I really truly believe in.  One is the Texas Children’s Hospital and the other is Child’s Play.  A fellow gamer out at Sarcastic Gamer has setup the second annual extralife charity run.  This is a fund raiser where you sponsor players to “run” their marathon for 24 hours.  It is a 24 hour gaming marathon.  I did it last year and made it almost 20 hours.  Last year they raised a total of $120,000.  I used WoW as a majority of my time, logging in almost 13 straight hours in game.   This marathon is about finding a cure for pediatric cancer.

The training has started again for this year.   I have 3 months before the marathon starts on October 17.  I will be posting my training routine.  I will be hoping some thing big will drop in-game at or around there and will give me the distraction I want and need.

You can read all about it on my page: https://waystogive.texaschildrens.org/netcommunity/bradpriller and the offical page is http://extralife.sarcasticgamer.com/

I am looking for a dollar an hour, so please sponsor what you can.

All this money goes directly to the Texas Children’s Hospital.

I encourage everyone who can to donate or sign-up and just do it as well!
